I’m not sure if you are asking how long SEO will work as a viable method in online marketing…in general.

Or if you mean how long it will take to have SEO work in getting your site’s ranked.

Let me try to answer both.

In the first instance, I’d say at some level SEO will always work as it’s just based on optimizing a site/structure to allow readers (most importantly) but also spiders to crawl through your site and find relevant content.

In the second instance… I’ve seen sites rank on Google for medium to low competitive terms within 48 hours. For those more competitive terms it can take a solid few months and as long as a year. Really depends on the market and the keyword phrase you’re trying to rank for.
