Article Marketing

Winter market, NYC – Jan 2009 – 02

article marketing

These photos were taken on a random Saturday afternoon in late January 2009, about two blocks south of the movie theater where I was planning to see the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

I arrived half an hour early (as usual), and decided to wander around the area to see if I could find something interesting to photograph — and stumbled unexpectedly upon a "green market" in the "pocket park" next to the subway station at Broadway & 66th Street. Aside from the essentially empty "DiPaola Turkey Farm" booth, the other vendors seemed to be selling apples (and hot cider) for the most part, though there were also a couple of stands selling honey, cookies, and pies.

Lots of people were walking by, and there were some chairs and small picnic tables where people could sit and relax, or perhaps enjoy some of the wares they had purchased. It was pretty cold when I took these pictures, probably around 25-30 degrees Fahrenheit, but there was also a dazzling bright sun that made the weather a little more tolerable….

After I finished taking as many pictures as I could reasonably imagine taking (80% of which were deleted before these "keepers" were uploaded), I walked back north to the movie theater. Along the way, I passed a guy wearing a billboard advertising a "going out of business" sale at Circuit City … which had nothing to do with the fresh-food market I had just seen, but which were still sufficiently interesting that I couldn’t help photographing them and adding them into the collection…

Succeeding With Article Marketing

Consistency is Key:

As with any other internet marketing strategy, if you want to see long term results from article marketing you need to be consistent. Articles will not help you achieve your objectives overnight, like generating more traffic, site promotion or a bigger subscription list, so you will have to be patient. This means that until you have quite a few good articles published and working for you, you simply won’t achieve any major results. Article marketing is definitely not about publishing one or two articles on a few directories once a week and hoping that it will be enough. The idea is to try and be as consistent as possible to get the most out of all the articles you write and publish on article directories.

Think Out of the Box:

When it comes down to marketing your articles, you’ll have to cook up new and genuine ways to get the word out. You need to find ways to properly leverage all your articles and avoid limiting yourself to a single approach. For example, articles can be converted into videos by creating slide shows and uploading them to video sharing sites. You can also add some more meat to your short article and turn it into a short PDF report that you can give away to your visitors and uploading to file sharing sites such as Scribd. You want to constantly be looking for ideas to reuse your content so you can get the most out of it. You will have a bigger impact on your audience and will connect with more people because you will stand out from your competition.

Outsource:

If you want to make sure you get the most out of article marketing while being able to concentrate on other issues that need your time, then you will need to outsource. You can spread out hundreds of articles promoting your site on the web without doing any work simply by finding some writers who will accept a nominal fee to write excellent articles. You can dedicate your time to expanding your business instead of spending every waking moment writing articles for all your marketing efforts. You can find great writers willing to work at throwaway rates on places like oDesk.com and Elance.com, which is how you can outsource most of your content and get excellent articles at low rates. If you want to make sure you are doing things right the first time then you will need to study how those with more experience do it. Don’t be hasty when hiring a writer, make sure you’ve analyzed his/her sample work before choosing him/her for the job.#Regular Reports: It is imperative that you keep a record of what it going on because otherwise you won’t know what changes are required to ensure everything keeps moving steadily forward. You will only move as far forward as you will allow yourself to go and that depends a lot on how much you believe in yourself and your potential. It’s easy to create a regular report for something like this, which will provide you with a clear view of how far forward you have moved and will help you see your mistakes. To get an even stronger record of your progress, you can start with weekly and monthly reports after you master the daily ones.#Good Keyword Research: Article marketing that isn’t based on good keyword research is useless. Being aware that most of your traffic will be organic from Google and other search engines you have to take whatever measures are necessary to ensure that you are targeting the right keywords.

You need targeted keywords that can drive traffic to your site. If you don’t know much about keyword research, the best place to start is with the Google AdWords Keyword Tool because it is quite simple to use and also offers the most accurate results.#The Resource Box: A great resource box will get more people to click through to your site, which is how you measure the success of an article marketing campaign, so you need to work on making sure your resource box is the best it can be. The resource box isn’t there for you to talk about yourself, so don’t do it because you are wasting a valuable resource. Instead, you want to discuss the products or services you are promoting in order to get people to come to your blog or site. Try to make it so that the resource box looks like a natural extension of the article. This will generate a better response because people will continue reading and won’t skip the resource box. Successful article marketing goes beyond the content, and works to get your readers and visitors from all directions. So if you really want to make your mark with article marketing, then think beyond what the other article marketers are doing, and you will get the attention you want.

article marketing question by Sherrie: does article marketing really work?
I keep being told to do article marketing and I’m wondering if this is a very effective way of marketing? Or if it is out of date?

Article marketing is the easiest and fastest way to get traffic online. You just have to know who your audience is, the one that you are writing to. Find the current keywords and you got yourself a nice article on hand. It really isnt that hard either. Ezinearticles.com is a great site to post your articles.

    Was the movie any good?

  • Ed Yourdon says:

The movie was fantastic! I highly recommend it…

How was it as far as objectionable material? (swearing, and immorality)

  • Ed Yourdon says:

Hmmm … "immorality" means different things to different people; but from what little I’ve learned of your background, I suspect that you would some aspects of the movie immoral. But in my opinion, those aspects are relatively minor, and the overall "grand theme" is highly moral.

As for swearing, I honestly don’t remember.

But you might prefer the relative safety of the original short story, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which you can find free on the Internet.
